The storm is brewing
Severe gales are expected across the UK over the next 24 hours, with parts of Wales and western and southern parts of England expected to be the worst hit. Severe gales have already been reported in areas on the south coast and in Wales (Porthcawl pictured) and they are due to get worse before they get better.
Graeme Leitch, public weather assurance manager at the Met Office said, "After a brief respite, further westerly severe gales are forecast for during the day and into the early hours of Tuesday. Coastal areas of the extreme southwest could see gusts of up to 80mph, with gusts of at least 60mph further inland".
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is urging boaters to heed the weather warnings and not venture out until the bad weather ceases. On its website the MCA says, "The Coastguard would advise all mariners and visitors to the coast to be very wary over the next few days. There may be some extremely difficult weather conditions out at sea and on exposed coastlines".
