Day 7 Channel Islands & France

Such a perfect day - Crews enjoy a stunning passage to Guernsey

Day 7 Budman Sealine SC47

The fleet awoke to another bright and sunny morning in St Helier. As soon as the sill opened Time Flies, manned by Claire and Richard, slipped and exited the harbour.

While sat off Corbiere, Claire and Richard reported back that there was a Force 3 with a gentle rolling Atlantic swell from the west - these were the best conditions of the week so far and the fleet was good to go.

On departure Windy 25 Mirage Sophie's engine would not start. The MBM team leapt aboard and sorted out the problem. An hour later all boats had departed and were making their way out of the harbour. Heading west the fleet passed by the stunning rocky coastline of Jersey, which had been masked by fog on the approach passage a couple of days earlier.

MBM's control boat Blue Fin followed behind and took the opportunity to photograph all the boats they passed in the fabulous conditions. On entering St Peter Port boats were fuelled and assembled in Victoria Marina and the crews then had the afternoon free to explore St Peter Port.

At 6.30pm Guernsey Culture and Leisure department welcomed crews to the island and hosted an al fresco Vin d'Honneur. The event was held in the grounds of Castle Cornet, which dates back to the 13th century. Everyone enjoyed a few glasses of wine and took in the spectacular view across the Russell towards Herm Island. Later the MBM team had arranged a BBQ at Guernsey Yacht Club and with great company, a sizzling barbecue and plenty of sunshine it was a perfect end to a perfect day.

Tomorrow crews will have a rest day to give them the chance to discover Guernsey and - weather permitting - MBM staffer Richard will also be running RIB rides over to Herm Island.
