A rest day in Gosport but Cherbourg might be on the horizon for tomorrow?
Despite sunshine and a patchy blue sky the wind is howling through the masts in the marina here at Gosport. Last night after the briefing the wind dropped off and all was still, but as soon as darkness fell the rain started and carried on throughout the night. Early morning the wind filled in and reminded everyone that they were better off staying port today.
Participants have spent the day pottering or visiting the local chandleries and shops for supplies. With Portsmouth Maritime Docks opposite and a good service over to the Isle of Wight there is plenty to do within easy walking distance.
Some crews have taken the ferry over to Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth outlet shopping capital and the home of the Spinnaker tower; it seems the Cadbury shop was very popular.
Today the fleet was joined in Gosport Marina by fleet boats Sabre, a Fairey Swordsman and Time Lost, a Cleopatra Camargue.
A briefing was held on the pontoon at 6pm to detail plans for tomorrow. The MBM team will be looking at the weather early morning in view of a en-masse departure to Cherbourg at 8:30. MBM’s new support RIB Time Flies, a Ribeye 740SX will go a check weather conditions in the Channel at 6:30 am. After the high winds fingers are crossed that the seas in the Channel will settle enough overnight. It’s currently blowing 19 knots, a Force 5 at the Channel Light.
The MBM team, Neale, Richard, Ryan and Claire have just watched England sadly defeated by Italy in the European Championship on board AquaVit, a Fairline Targa 47 – Thank you David and Neil for their hospitality. With alarms set for 6 and pack-lunches made, it’s lights out now on Blue Fin.
