The Shonan Maru No 2 enters Tokyo Bay carrying Kiwi anti-whaling activist Pete Bethune. Bethune boarded the Japanese whaling ship under the cover of darkness to attempt a citizen's arrest on its captain following the sinking of his round-the-world trimaran, Ady Gil, in January. Bethune was arrested on his arrival in Japan and charged with "vessel invasion".
