First female cruise ship captain

For the first time a woman has been appointed captain of a major cruise ship. Karin Stahre-Janson has taken command of Royal Caribbean International's 74,000-ton Monarch of the Seas and is responsible not only for safe navigation of the vessel, but also for its 2,400 passengers and 850 crew.
It is a far cry from her first command, a small sailing boat given to her by her parents when she was just seven years old. Captain Stahre-Janson, a native of Stromstad in Sweden, sailed in a variety of vessels ranging from tall ships, cargo ships and tankers, before joining Royal Caribbean ten years ago.
