See footage of Falmouth motorboat fire
- Mon, 26 Jan 2009
A husband and wife were rescued from a 37ft motorcruiser which exploded on the River Fal on Saturday. A passing yacht took them off the boat, which caught fire while it was moored alongside a mid-river pontoon.
Both the all-weather and inshore lifeboats from the RNLI's Falmouth station attended and transferred firefighters from the shore to the pontoon. Further firefighters arrived aboard Transco Phoenix, the brigade's RIB, and used a light portable pump to supply one jet to extinguish the fire.
The burnt-out hull of the motorcruiser was later towed by harbour launch and beached on Turnaware Bar to prevent it from sinking.
