- Wed, 28 Oct 2009
The world's largest newest and largest cruise ship has been delivered to its owners, Royal Caribbean International, by a shipyard in Finland.
Oasis of the Seas is 361m long with a beam of 66m and will be able to accommodate 6360 passengers and 2100 crew members.
Within the 225,000-ton vessel is a Central Park Neighborhood, the first ever living park at sea, with 12,175 plants, 62 vines, 56 trees and bamboo, while the ship's AquaTheater pool is 5.4m deep and is the largest pool at sea.
Some 500,000 individual steel parts, 150 miles of piping, and 3,300 miles of electric cable were used to construct the vessel, which took 8,000 people to build.
Oasis of the Seas will be based at Ft Lauderdale, Florida, and will be used primarily for cruising in the Caribbean.

Fantasic, Shows that demand for holidaying on the sea is still there and floating hotels will get bigger and bigger!

Makes a profiable target for any group out of the 6,360 passengers to pirate the vessel and hold all to ransom and don't say it can't happen as almost anything is possible. Pirates are venturing as far as the Seychelles from Somalia; the Carribean is only a few hours away by plane from Somalia.

Imagine that arriving at your idyllic but already busy Carribean Island and disgorging all of the passengers and a third of the crew to add to the chaos you already are experiencing!
