Coastguards set to join strike action in March
- Fri, 26 Feb 2010
Coastguards are among 270,000 civil servants who are set to stage a two-day strike on 8 and 9 March.
The strike has been called by the Public and Commercial Services Union over a dispute with the Government over the civil service compensation scheme.
The union's national executive committee will be meeting next week to finalise further strike dates, which could include national walkouts and targeted strike action throughout the rest of March and April.
It is unclear at this stage what effect the strike will have on coastguard services, but search and rescue cover is expected to be maintained.

The MCA will have 9-5 office managers, with little to no experience in SAR, manning Rescue Centres for 12 hour shifts. Better safe than sorry - stay on dry land!
