Marina manager thrown into water
- Thu, 26 Aug 2010
Police have launched an investigation after a marina manager was thrown into the water at Poole Quay.
John Binder, manager of Poole Quay Boat Haven (pictured), ended up in the water after trying to stop several men releasing a boat which had been impounded for non payment of charges.
Five men, some carrying bolt croppers, are reported to have entered the haven aboard a speedboat on Monday afternoon (23 August 2010).
Mr Binder became involved in an argument with one of the men when he tried to stop them, and he was pushed into the water.
The raiders fled, leaving Mr Binder with leg injuries which were treated by paramedics.
Dorset Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident to contact them.

Assault charge must follow to name and shame those responsible. If outstanding. charges remain unpaid then boat should be compulsorily sold by HMRC.

Chaining a motor boat to a marina pontoon is the practical - and less costly - equivalent to nailing a writ to a ship's mast.
The marina could copy the nefarious activities of wheel clampers, who after a few hours, lift a clamped car up, and take it away to a compound, after which the cost of shifting it is added to the 'release fee'.
A boat ashore is not easy to remove by stealth, and the marina could say that it was placed ashore for safety. British Law requires the marina to take due care of everything left with them, regardless of a full payment being made, or not made.
