Plans for a large new marina in Plymouth look set to go ahead after being recommended for approval by the city's planning committee

Plymouth Marina

The 179-berth King Point Marina will be built in the inner basin of Millbay Docks and will provide secure pontoon berthing for boats ranging from five metres to 25m in length.

Shore facilities will include a two-storey building containing marina offices, shower and toilet facilities, storage areas and either a first floor marina yacht club restaurant, retail unit, or office unit.

Millbay's inner basin was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and was opened to shipping in 1857, but has been little used since the construction of the ferry terminal in the outer harbour in 1970.

Sutton Harbour Group was selected by Millbay's lead developer English Cities Fund (ECf) to build and operate the new marina. "Millbay's recent role as the America's Cup Race Village illustrates the huge potential of its waterfront and harbour", said Duncan Cumberland, development director for Muse Developments, one of the partners within ECF.
