Two trawlers called out the RNLI when they were
left stranded eight miles south east of the River Tyne. Trawler Good Fellowship offered help to the trawler,
Trustful, which got into difficulty
with nets caught in its propellers. Good
Fellowship assisted by towing her back to port, but also became tangled in
floating debris.
The skipper of Good Fellowship called out the Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat. The six fishermen and two boats were towed in convoy back to Tyne pier at around 17:30 on Monday, before a number of complicated manoeuvres to berth both unpowered trawlers, safely.
Michael Nugent, Tynemouth lifeboat coxswain said, "This was a very unusual rescue and certainly the first time the Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat has recued two large fishing boats at the same time.'
