Second Costa ship in distress

Sister ship to the Costa Concordia is adrift in the Indian Ocean following a fire

Just six weeks after Costa Concordia sank of the Italian coast, sister ship Costa Allegra is adrift with no power in the Indian Ocean after a fire.

With more than 1000 passengers onboard, the 615ft cruise liner is stranded 200-miles southwest of the Seychelles, near Alphonse Island.

Costa Cruises told the BBC News website that the fire broke out in the electric generator’s room and has caused no injuries. Inspections of the state of the engine room are ongoing.

The cruise liner left the port of Diego Suarez in Madagascar on Saturday and was due to arrive in the island of Mahe in the Seychelles tomorrow.

A number of vessels including Naval units are making way to the ship.
