Tip of the Month
Changing your oil
Changing the engine oil is usually a once a year procedure for most leisure boaters. Change it at the end of the season which will give you an early warning of any problems, such as water in the oil, and will ensure that the engine is bathed in fresh oil all winter, rather than the old acidic stuff. And always change the filter at the same time.
Impeller changing made easier
To help make impeller changes quick and easy you can swap the original pump cover for a ‘Speedseal' version. These come with thumb screws, so do not require any tools for removal. ASAP supplies are also doing a special this month on impeller removal tools, down from an RRP of £53 to £36.
Upgrade your electronics
Update your electronics this winter
Check with the manufacturer of your electronics to see if there has been any software upgrades since your purchase. Winter is a good time to sort out little jobs like this. The upgrades are normally free, they are usually easy to upload and will offer you all the newest features available.

Service your boat before winterising
Before you winterise your boat, why not carry out your annual service? This way your engine is protected throughout winter by fresh oil, and any problems that are discovered can be dealt with in your own time, and before the engineers become inundated in the spring rush.
Nab a cheap winter berth
If you are not signed up for an annual berthing contract, now is the time to look for a cheap winter berth. From the 1st of October many marinas offer fantastic winter rates at a fraction of summer prices, meaning you can enjoy a change of scenery for up to six months for less than you would imagine.
Check your nav lights are working
Now the nights are drawing in it's a good time to check your nav lights are working. It's probably been a few months since you last turned them on so don't wait until your first dark passage to find that blown bulb or loose connection.
