The new Squadron 42 takes up the Phantom mantle and runs
| For: | It's more than a bit windy up top |
|---|---|
| Against: | Sleek looks and amazing functionailty |
Powerful, cool and clever, the new Squadron 42 from Fairline is the consummate flybridge player. But since Fairline did away with the ‘affordable' Phantom flybridge range this boat has to do more than just look good, it has to act as the entry point to a Fairline fly, and that's a far more serious business.
Compared to the old Phantom 40, this Squadron has really upped the standard of fit and finish inside. A master class in understated cool, aside from a complete lack of handrails, it must be the most intricately thought out interior in this class with stowage and cruising functionality everywhere you look, like the pull-out berth from the saloon and the drawer freezer unit under the below decks.
The conventional two cabin layout is lifted by a long run of skylights for the master suite, however there is no getting away from the fact that this is one area the Squadron will struggle to keep pace with the Sealine F42, the latter's cabins being simply outstanding.
Verdict
The new 42 is a class act and more than capable of making the competition very nervous indeed.
