We test thre retro classics in December 2012 issue of MBM
In 2004 a gentleman called Peter Morton, along with boatbuilders Casse Tête Marine Ltd, came up with the idea of re-creating the magic of the classic Fairey. Peter was fed up with commuting every day from the Isle of Wight to the mainland in "a flat bottomed Tupperware container masquerading as a powerboat".
He wanted a safe, seaworthy, fast powerboat, that could handle whatever the weather threw at it.
But the big story is that design legend Alan Burnard of Fairey Marine was drafted in as the designer (the last boat he ever created).
Two options were offered, an open cockpit or a wheelhouse version. Our test boat Barchi, the very first built, is the latter.
