Will twin diesels propel this 35 into the seagoing market?

Haines has launched its first twin-diesel, fully-fledged seagoing model - renamed the Haines 35 Offshore - and with it comes a number of modifications to the interior finish and layout.
The round-bilge hull has a deep forefoot that develops into a chine as it runs aft. A long deep keel is still in place but on the twin-engined boat this cuts away farther forward and tapers in to give good water flow into the props, while still providing protection and some added stability.
As expected the hull handled beautifully, smoothly mastering the choppy seas right up to 17 knots, and then it stopped. That was the day's best figure and our only problem. We were left sorely wishing for more power, the kind of power this boat clearly deserves and the oomph to deliver a cruising speed of 17 knots or 18 knots.
Haines has always been happy to offer a well-finished interior but now there are touches of real contemporary flair.
Verdict: A high quality, comfortable cruiser
