A jet-powered motorboating gem from a yacht manufacturer

For: A pull-out awning makes for an all-weather cockpit
Against: Sleeping quarters aren't huge

Oyster Marine is a much-respected yacht builder and took the decision a few years ago to branch into power.

The result was the naval-looking, jet-powered LD43 with its fantastic interconnecting wheelhouse and cockpit. In 2008, the OM43 was launched to replace the LD43, and the result is a motorboat of real pedigree.

The new model has had an internal redesign to accommodate two adult-sized cabins without denting the serious socialising aspect of its through-saloon and cockpit.

A re-jig in the saloon-level wheelhouse - which now houses the galley - and some tweaking to the superstructure itself has delivered much-improved visibility.

Being jet-powered, this boat can operate in particularly shallow water, plus there is hardly any danger of getting the sterngear fouled.

The drives push the OM43 to a flat-out speed of 30 knots, and a cruising speed of 23 knots, at which you'll get just under a mile a gallon.

An option of joystick control for the drives makes this boat a breeze to manoeuvre.
