Jeanneau Sun Fast 42

Jeanneau's Sun Fast range has developed a strong identity and notched up some significant commercial successes since the range gained its first launch in the form of the Sun fast 52.

Distinctive and racy styling by Philippe Briand, the range is probably best known for the Sun Fast 36, a boat genuinely well suited to cruising and racing and one that has proved popular with charter companies.

The 42 follows on in this vein with the same family styling apart from the masthead rig which is available in two versions, standard or the larger racing sail plan with its taller mast and three sets of spreaders.

Under sail she's tight and crisp on the helm, although heavier than you might expect of a boat of her type. With plenty of power in her sail plan, the racing version (the only one we tested), needs to be worked to get the best out of her and as a result, she's a rewarding boat to sail when fully powered up.

Her solid laminated hull is surprising for a modern performance boat but does make her tough and resilient - key features for owners who are interested in chartering her out.
